Today, 14 FCCLA members were able to attend the FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference at EIU. They heard from Mr. Science, Jason Lindsey on how you can use your passion the be a leader and give back to your community. Ada, Jackson and Kaiden all had the opportunity to assist Mr. Science in some cool experiments. Students also had breakout sessions on Fashion, Serving Others , Giving back through the Ronald Mc Donald House, Competitive Events, touring EIU, and Entrepreneurship.
Spina Bifida is a birth defect that occurs when the neural tube, which develops into the spinal cord and brain, doesn't close properly during pregnancy. Spina bifida can range from mild to severe. Some people may have little to no disability.
Whereas other people may be limited in the way they move or function. Some people may even be paralyzed or unable to walk or move parts of their body.
In the United States, spina bifida occurs in about 1 in 2,875 births each year, or about 1,278 babies. Worldwide, it affects about 1 in 2,500 newborns.
AGS wants to help spread awareness! So we are asking students and staff to wear
yellow in support of all those affected on October 25th.
At the October BOE meeting, four Altamont FFA Officers presented an update to the school board members about summer events, upcoming FFA events, and what is happening in the Ag classroom. The FFA calendar is full of exciting events and the Ag classes are busy with a variety of projects. The Altamont FFA Chapter is very thankful for the support of the Altamont Board of Education and the ACHS administration!
Mrs. Cameron's 1st graders investigated their pumpkin today and made a pumpkin parts craft. They especially liked feeling the "brains" on the inside!
On last Friday, AGS students and staff celebrated the end of the first quarter with a friendly game of kickball and some refreshing popsicles. Special thanks to Mr. Heiden for calling the play by play!
Just a reminder that parent teacher conferences will take place on Wednesday Oct. 16th and Thursday Oct. 17th from 2:30 to 6:30 each day. Student dismissal both days will be at 2:10 with no school on Friday Oct. 18th.

Fire Prevention Week is 10/6 - 10/12. Thank you to the Altamont Fire Department for taking time to talk to the kindergarten classes about fire safety and letting them get in the truck. We have some future firefighters! 🚒

In kindergarten, we have been learning about 2D shapes. Mrs. Miller's class finished the unit off by going on a shape hunt around the school and having a 2D shape snack. Math is fun and tastes good, too!

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Friday, October 4th is picture day at Altamont Grade School. If you would like to order pictures, remember to send your order forms and money with your student unless you have ordered online.
Sports pictures that will be taken include: Softball, Baseball, Cheerleading, and Girls Basketball. Please make sure athletes have uniforms and picture packets ready for the photographer.
Order forms were sent home with all students. If you need another, there are additional order forms in the office.
Last week Mrs. Miller's class read a story about a squirrel named Melvin. We talked about the characters, problem/solution, setting, and character feelings. On Friday, we made a squirrels favorite snack, acorns! 🐿
Kindergarten had a great day celebrating their completion of ABC Boot Camp! They have learned about all 26 letters and sounds. Here is Mrs. Wendlings class in their ABC fashions. 😊
We had a great turnout of students and staff at the 2024 See you at the Pole event this morning. FCA is back in action tomorrow morning, Sept 26th, at 7:25 am in the ACHS gym for dodgeball and donuts.
7th graders battled it out today in science class while playing a game of periodic table battleship!
