Mr. Zumbahlen, ACHS Business Teacher and Golf Coach

As part of Mr. Long’s Photojournalism class, students completed a short interview with different staff members of the district. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight some of the staff that help make a difference in our student’s lives.

Rob Zumbahlen, ACHS Business Teacher, Golf Coach (Interviewed by Brayden Schnarre)

“Where did you grow up?”

  • I grew up about 10 minutes away in the city of Effingham.

“What do you find most enjoyable in the career of teaching and education?”

  • What I enjoy the most in the education field is being around students and trying to get them to see some new opportunities. I hope to help students find new career paths for themselves and try to get them to find career paths that work with them.

“What thing in education took you the longest to learn?”

  • Planning lessons. Sometimes you plan a lesson that is supposed to last 30 mins, but only lasts 10, which means you have excess time you need to fill. But after a year or two, you get the hang of it.

“What are 3 words you think students would describe you as?”

  • I hope I would be described as standards, since I have high standards. I hope I would be known as easygoing, and I hope I would be described as a nice guy.

“What is the biggest setback in your career?”

  • My biggest setback was trying to set up a business program at Altamont. When I came to Altamont, there was no business program, so I kind of started it myself. I found the DO program and worked out the kinks, because I really had nothing to go off of. It started with me.

“What is some advice you would give to students at ACHS?”

  • Students should follow their dreams. I would have probably never been teaching if I said no when it got hard. Whatever is put out in front of you, you should consider it, because they may see something you don't.
