FCCLA, short for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is a nationwide, nonprofit, co-curricular organization that aims to help youth in public and private schools with family bonds, careers, and participation in the community. This year, there were thirty students that took part in the Altamont section of this club, with Sam Childerson acting as President.

One of the events that FCCLA participated in this year was the Spring Leadership Conference in February, in which it seemed that the entire school was missing. This conference consisted of speakers that talked about the importance of leadership and creating a lifelong support system through graduation and beyond.

FCCLA also helps the Altamont Grade School with their backpack program throughout the school year. To those that don’t know what the backpack program is, the concept is simple: children at risk of not receiving food over the weekend receive a bag of food that is child-friendly, nutritious, nonperishable and easy to eat. Each backpack provides enough food that a child can easily assemble into six healthy meals.
